Annette was born into a very poor village family where it was unheard of to send girls to school.  Her mother was a second wife, who was married to give the husband sons, something the first wife had failed to do.  But the second wife produced two more daughters, the first being Annette.  This was a cause of great frustration to Annette’s father.  I learned that Annette was doing very well in school.  I talked to her and her father and offered to pay her school fees.  Her father was stunned that anyone would want to educate a girl, but now that she is in high school and doing so well, he has come around, and is now pinning his hopes on his smart daughter.
